My definition of manipulation:
Changing or altering an aspect of a particular thing whether is it by hand, by the computer, or your mind.
Examples of evolution:
I think your idea of juxtaposing the silkscreen with found images, espcially the fashion editorial style is great. I think it might be nice to incorperate text somehow to change the message. Maybe it is drop text so the entire page is one color and the text is made up of the original image or the other way around.
